Background & process

Create a showreel or case film lasting a maximum of 30 seconds. It should showcase projects you've produced during your education. Pay attention to copyright, transitions, grading, timing, typography, and storytelling.

I began by gathering material from the projects I wanted to include in my showreel. After that I sketched a storyboard, which served as the foundation for the story. This helped me determine which elements should appear in each step and how the movements should look.

Once the storyboard was complete, I presented it to the class and received feedback on different steps and movements. Based on the feedback, I rearranged the story order and removed one project due to time constraints. I selected a track from SoundCloud, imported it into After Effects, and marked the transitions in sync with the music.

Reflections

I've always found it challenging to navigate After Effects. However, during this project, I ended up watching many tutorials and experimented a lot, which changed my perspective. Even though I still find the program a bit challenging, I now also find it easier to locate functions and I really enjoy working with it. It's something I’d like to pursue in the future.
